Living Leisurely but Healthy.

When Calvin Pace decided to sign with the New York Jets over his old team the Arizona Cardinals, many people would have thought it to be because of a money situation. However, surprisingly, that was not so according to Pace. Instead, the reason he chose the New York based Jets was because of their practices when it came to fitness.

As reported by ESPN’s Mike Sando here, Pace told reporter Dave Hutchinson that, “It’s the little things…You don’t need valet service. You just want people to show you it’s all about trying to win. (The Jets) laid things out as far as yoga classes, the pilates, training staff. Those are things I’ve never seen before in the NFL.”

Pace was not ‘bought’ so to speak as much as he was impressed with the idea of being able to enjoy the 42 million dollar contract he received from the Jets while keeping fit to play his sport.

Now, how does this relate to you?

Well, once you have the chance to go out and enjoy that hard earned vacation time, you may want to just enjoy the many indulgences available to you. However, you may be worried that you are indulging too much and not exercising enough to balance out all the eating and relaxing you have done. Here is where the problem comes in. How are you going to have this vacation time to just relax and take in the calming nature of the moments without having to spend a large portion of that time in the gym?

Shannon Simmons’ article gives many great tips about what you should do to balance your play and exercise. A short example is, that she tells you not to indulge yourself every time you go out to eat. Also, she gives you great suggestions of where to look for hotels that offer state of the art gym facilities (if you don’t mind spending a good amount of time at the gym on vacation).

Like Pace did with his contract negotiations, you should do with your vacation choices. Look to get the most out of the vacation on both the leisure and health side. Stay healthy and stay happy.
